Casa Grande, AZ- The 4A Kino Region coaches have voted on first and second teams and the Vista Grande Spartans are well represented. The Spartans had 5 players voted on first team, 1 player voted on second team and one honorable mention. Vista Grande is in the 4A Kino Conference which includes Salpointe Catholic, Canyon Del Oro, Catalina Foothills, Tucson Sahuaro, and CG Union. Vista Grande finished 2nd in the conference with a 7-3 record.
Senior Marco Ozuna received First Team Pitcher Honors. Ozuna led the team with 5 wins and was third in the conference. He had 42 strikeouts in 29 innings. He finished with a 1.45 ERA for the season. Ozuna also pitched a no-hitter against Amphi, in a 19-0 victory. His best performance came against conference rival CDO, where he outdueled fellow First Team pitcher Dante Schindler to a 1-0 victory. Ozuna pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing 1 hit with 9 strikeouts.
Senior Martin “Tank” Rodriquez received First Team Catcher Honors. He batted .417 with 25 hits, 19 RBI, 8 doubles, and 1 HR. He drew 7 walks and 4 hit by pitches. He had a .493 on base percentage, with a slugging percentage of .600 and an OPS of 1.093. He finished in the top 5 in most offensive categories and led all catchers in all offensive categories. Rodriquez was the best defensive catcher in the conference with a .993 fielding percentage.
Senior Adam Belloc received First Team Infield Honors. He played middle infield for the Spartans. Belloc led the conference in batting average, hitting .465, having 33 hits, 15 RBI, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 19 runs and had 4 steals. He also drew 9 walks and one hit by pitch. Belloc had an on base percentage of .531, a slugging percentage of .577 and an OPS of 1.108. Belloc was solid defensively with a .911 fielding percentage.
Senior Kenyata Diamond also received First Team Infield Honors. Diamond was primarily a third basemen but also played shortstop and second base. Diamond batted .417, with 25 hits, 14 RBI, 15 runs, 4 doubles, an inside the park homerun and had 4 stolen bases. He drew 9 walks and a hit by pitch. Diamond had an on base percentage of .486, slugging percentage of .533 and an OPS of 1.019,
Sophomore Antony Bolanos received First Team Outfield Honors. Bolanos is the starting centerfielder for the Spartans. He batted .375, with 30 hits, 20 runs, 18 RBI, 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 6 stolen bases. He drew 6 walks and 4 hit by pitches. Bolanos had an on base percentage of .435, a slugging percentage of .500 and an OPS of .935. He had a fielding percentage of 1.000.
Junior Anthony Garcia received Second Team Pitcher Honors. He had a record of 4-1, having 44 strikeouts in 33.1 innings. Garcia had a team low ERA of 1.26. He also had a save.
Senior Juan Martinez received Honorable Mention. Martinez played 1B, OF and was a RHP. He had 16 RBI, a double and a stolen base. He also notched 26.1 innings with a 2-1 record and a save. He had an ERA of 3.46.
The Vista Grande Baseball Field received most improved field.
Spartan Nation Finishes Strong, Headed to Playoffs for Third Straight Year

Casa Grande, AZ- On senior night the #4 ranked Spartans won big, beating the visiting #18 ranked Walden Grove Wolves 10-0 in five innings. Senior starting pitcher Adam Belloc (4-1) pitched a complete game shutout, giving up only one hit and striking out 8 Wolves. Assistant coach Victor Olivares said that Belloc “was sharp today, after that first inning he settled down and got in a nice rhythm. He trusted his defense and his catcher and took care of business”.
Vista Grande got on the board in the second inning when senior Tank Rodriquez doubled to left center and sophomore Anthony Bolanos singled to score courtesy runner Erubiel Ozuna. Bolanos advanced to second on the throw and scored on senior Juan Martinez single to center field. After a Kenyata Diamond single, freshman Emilio Barreras reached on an error which scored Martinez and Diamond to make it 4-0 Spartans after 2 innings.
The Spartans added another run in the third inning. Senior Marco Ozuna drew a leadoff walk and ended up scoring on a Bolanos sacrifice fly to right field. In the fourth inning after walks to Martinez and Barreras, Belloc, Anthony Garcia and M. Ozuna had back to back to back RBI singles to make the score 8-0, Spartans.
In the fifth, pinch hitter Guapo Armenta and senior Jaydon Moreno had infield singles and with two outs, Barreras doubled them in to ten run rule Walden Grove.
The Vista Grande Spartans finished the season with an overall record of 17-8 and finished with a 7-3 region record. They will be heading to the playoffs for their third straight year. The 17 wins is a record high for both Vista Grande High School and Head Coach Harley Grigg. This year is also a record for lowest ranking for the Spartans as they were ranked #4 in 4A for several weeks.
The last two years Vista Grande lost in the play in round, having to travel to the lower seed. This year the Spartans will host their first playoff game in school’s history and might even bypass the play in round if they finish in the Top-8. Official and final ranking will be posted today April 23, 2019 around 2:30 PM.

The Vista Grande High School Baseball Team are looking for sponsors.
Funding is needed to cover league fees, umpire fees, field maintenance, team equipment, and tournament expenses.We are giving businesses the opportunity to sponsor and help assist with funds needed to compete, participate, and achieve on the athletic field and in the academic classroom.
We are asking for a minimum donation of $100, but any monetary donation would be truly appreciated and would help out tremendously. As a contributor, your name will be included on team banner that will be displayed at all tournaments and games.
For $250 we will have an individual banner made for your company and placed at all home games with your company announced as being a sponsor.
